Form Plants

A design-led nursery in Surrey

Form Plants grows and supplies trees, topiary, hedging, shrubs and perennials. Most of its plants go to garden designers, landscapers and contractors across the industry, but the showroom and nursery are open to everyone, with great plants and people who know them.

The story

How Form Plants began

Form Plants was founded in 2020 by horticulturist Jamie Butterworth with a simple idea: a nursery that puts the customer first, where designers, landscapers and homeowners feel equally welcome, and where plants are chosen with a designer's eye rather than simply moved through as stock. It opened at Dorney Court, near Eton.

Today the nursery is in Row Town, Surrey, with a showroom and acres of specimen trees, topiary and hedging, and a second site for perennials, Burrow Hill Nursery at Chobham. The team hand-selects plants in the growing fields of specialist growers across the UK and Europe, and handles every order from the first enquiry to delivery.

That approach has taken the nursery well beyond private gardens, to show gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the living garden for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

What we grow

Plants for the trade, and for everyone

Trees and topiary

Multi-stem, pleached, standard and parasol trees, and clipped topiary, hand-selected from specialist growers in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Hedging and shrubs

Established hedging and shrubs that give a new garden structure and screening from the day they are planted.

Perennials and grasses

Grown at Chobham, the former Jacksons nursery, where propagation now happens in house and everything is raised peat free.

Form Plants is open to everyone. Most of what we grow goes to the industry: garden designers, landscape architects, landscapers and contractors, along with production companies, fashion houses and event organisers who need planting for exhibitions and temporary installations, and the teams behind RHS show gardens. But you don't need to be in the trade to buy from us. Home gardeners are just as welcome to visit, ask questions and take plants home.

Peat free

We have never used peat

Form Plants has never used peat. Everything we pot goes into peat-free compost, and from 1st September 2026 we adopted the RHS "No New Peat" standard in full, so we no longer buy in any plant containing new peat, whoever grew it.

That is checked line by line, at the point we quote for a scheme. It has meant finding substitutes for some plants and saying no to some orders, and it is the right thing to do.

Come and visit the nursery

The best way to choose plants is to see them for yourself, and the Form Plants showroom at Row Town is built for exactly that. Walk through acres of multi-stem and specimen trees, clipped topiary, established shrubs and hedging, then sit down with a coffee and talk your plans through with the team.

Everyone is welcome, whether you are planting a single tree, looking for the finishing touch for a border or sourcing plants for a whole landscape project. There is no need to book, just come along.

  • Acres of architectural trees, topiary, shrubs and hedging to walk round
  • Complimentary bean-to-cup coffee and comfortable places to sit
  • A library of modern and vintage gardening books, and houseplants to browse
  • Friendly, expert horticulturists on hand for advice
  • Consultations for bigger projects, booked in advance with the team
