Planting design and garden consultations across the UK from horticulturist Jamie Butterworth, based in Cumbria and Surrey. Whether you need a fresh pair of eyes on one border or a planting plan for the whole garden, there’s a way to work together that fits your space. Every plan is drawn by Jamie personally.
Ways to work together
Online consultation · £650
60 minutes with Jamie on video. Fill in a short questionnaire and send photos beforehand; written notes and plant suggestions follow. Booked and paid online.
Garden visit · from £1,250
Up to 2 hours in your garden near Cumbria or Surrey, looking at soil, light and what’s thriving, followed by a written report and plant list. Half and full days anywhere in the UK from £2,500, plus travel.
Planting plan · from £3,500
A scaled planting plan and full plant schedule, drawn by Jamie for your garden, with one round of revisions. Plants are grown and supplied by Form Plants, the peat-free nursery in Surrey. From £3,500 depending on size.
How it works
1. Get in touch. Book an online consultation, or send an enquiry with a few photos and a note about your garden.
2. Look and listen. We talk through how you use the space and what you love, and look closely at soil, light and the plants already doing well.
3. Plan and plant. You receive written notes or a full planting plan, and the plants can be grown and delivered by Form Plants.
Plants from Form Plants. Every scheme can be supplied by Form Plants, my peat-free nursery in Surrey, so the plants on the plan are the plants that arrive.
The online consultation fee is credited against a planting plan booked within three months. Travel and any overnight stay for garden visits are charged at cost.

Garden visits are available anywhere in the UK. Two-hour visits are offered near Cumbria and Surrey; further afield, visits are booked as a half or full day, plus travel.

No, the focus is planting: choosing the right plants for your soil, light and style, and setting out how they grow together. If you're also working with a garden designer or landscaper, I'm happy to work alongside them.

Plants for every scheme are grown and supplied by Form Plants, my peat-free nursery in Surrey, so what's on the plan is what arrives in your garden.

Online consultations are booked and paid for online. For garden visits and planting plans, send an enquiry with a few details and photos, and I'll come back to you with dates and a quote.

A few photos of the garden, rough measurements or a sketch, and a note of what you'd like to change. A short questionnaire follows once you've booked.

Any time of year. Spring and autumn are the busiest seasons for visits and planting, so it helps to get in touch early if you'd like to plant at those times.
